Kampar Special Food & Drink

Medan Selera Stall 24 Char Koay Teow 

We conducted our Food discovery session on one of the weekdays and when we arrived at the Market around 8pm, we can see a small crowd gathering in front of the stall 24 placing orders, some having here and some waiting to take away. We ordered the Ham Dan Fun (HDF) on our own and have a taste. The HDF cost RM4.30 which is relatively cheap compared to those we had in Penang and KL. The taste is irresistible where the HDF evenly fried on the wok and by using charcoal.


We ordered a Ham Dan Char Koay Teow with Noodles. 

Many people who visited the stall are attracted to the aunty’s “Frying skill” where she sits on a small stool and fried on the floor compared to others which they will stand and fried. When asked, aunty mentioned that its easier for her to manipulate the charcoal and fire because it must not be too hot or warm when the noodles are being fried, this will eventually change the taste of the HDF. She also laughed by saying at her age, its better to sit and fry because she cannot stand that long.

The majority of customers having their HDF at Stall 24 gave positive feedback on the HDF by saying that the dish is really tasty and the price is reasonable. Students and locals must give a try they said.

Short History :


Char Koay Teow is a famous Malaysian Local Chinese food which means Fried rice cake after translating. The dish itself is well renowned especially in the northern part of Malaysia Penang. But this does not eliminate Kampar from having one of the best Char Koay Teow in this small town in Perak. Stall 24 have been operating since 30 years ago and the aunty currently frying the Koay Teow at this stall is the third generation in her Family.

Ham Darn Fun (Cockle egg rice noodle) is how the locals here named this delicious dish. In Kampar, Ham Darn Fun is cooked in a large flat cast iron wok. The noodles are fried in large batch first before being served individually on plates based on customers demand. The version of Hum Darn Fun compared to the Char Koay Teow in Penang is that the Hum darn Fun only served with eggs and cockles, a lot of beansprouts and prawns without chinese sausages, the pork oil like its served in Penang.

Medan Selera Stall 25 Ice Blended


On the second day, we went to Medan Selera again craving for food, and we founded something special, Ice Blended. Based on the feedbacks we obtained from the customers enjoying their Ice Blended on that day we conducted our discovery session, we found out that majority of the patrons are well satisfied with the taste and the serving of their Ice Blended. We can observe that the hot selling items mainly consist of the White Coffee taste, Milo and also the Dragon Fruit taste.



Dragon Fruit Ice Blended is really ATTRACTIVE. 





The majority of the customers are made up of Local residents, UTAR and KTAR students. On that day, we hardly see any outstation tourists because the owner of the stall did mentioned that the Medan Selera will be more packed during festive season or school holiday where a lot of tourist heading South will stop by Kampar and have a meal. Furthermore the price of the Tall Ice Blended of Stall 25 is really cheap which is RM4. Nowadays due to the high living standard and economic downpour crisis in Malaysia, we hardly find delicious foods at such reasonable price and that is the selling point of Mr. Wong’s ice blended.


White Coffee Ice Blended .

On the other hand, there are various social network sites and blogs have paid a visit to Stall 25 throughout the years and therefore the stall is familiar to all food hunters locally and internationally. The locals and regular customers gave positive feedback which mostly mentioned about the money they paid worth the product they received.




To be precise, Out of 10 points given to the patrons on that day, all of them rated the beverage above 8 and I can assure friends out there who have not tried this Stall 25 Tall Ice Blended , do come over and have a try and you will not regret!



Beside Ice Blended, the No. 25 stall also serve many others drinks.


Short History: 

It had been many years since Mr. Wong, the owner started this beverage business and Ice-Blended white coffee is his hot selling item. Mr. Wong started this business 13 years ago when he first came back from the United States of America after spending few years there working as a bartender and he mentioned that it was his dream to bring this “secret recipe” which is the tall ice blended into Malaysia. He started off by only making fruit Ice Blended such as the dragon fruits, watermelons and honeydews because the target market in Medan Selera Market made up most of the elderly citizens who are more health conscious.

Later on Mr. Wong realize that students who visited the Medan Selera for breakfast throughout the years have increased and they prefer White coffee for breakfast and that was when he started to make ice blended White Coffee. What really attracts the locals and tourist to try out Mr. Wong’s Tall Ice Blended is the reasonable price which each glass only cost RM4.

Evaluation of the 2 businesses
A)    The reason why we choose these 2 stalls/companies is because :-

Medan Selera Stall (No.24) Char Kuey Teow
This food stall is known as one of the famous char kuey teow and also one of the famous noodles in Kampar. Besides that, most of the students in Kampar from other states will surely taking their first step in this stall because rumor spreads around them in the university or the college. Most of the students will never miss their chance to try this char kuey teow when they first start their studies in Kampar. Moreover, we choose this stall as our assignment is because that in Kampar, this stalls is known as the famous food for more than 10 years so this stall is known as the traditional food in Kampar. The char kuey keow taste extremely delicious can be compare with the famous char kuey teow in Penang.

Medan Selera Stall (No.25) Ice Blended White Coffee
This food stall is also considering one of the famous drinks in Kampar. We choose this is because that this ice blended white coffee is newly and an invented white coffee that hardly can be found in Kampar. It started 2 years ago and after invented this ice blended white coffee many of the local and the students in Kampar quickly tried the ice blended. After we received a lot of feedback from the customers, they said that this ice blended white coffee is hardly can be found and also it is quite rare. Besides that the taste of this ice blended is very delicious and sweet. Therefore, we can conclude that the taste of the white coffee is similar as the famous white coffee in Ipoh. We also will try to promote more of this ice blended as we need intend to help the food stall to attract more customer, increase the reputation of this stalls and also we intend to list this stall down as a special food that must never miss in Kampar.



B)    Classification of e-commerce by the nature of the transactions or interactions

B2B2C
This food stall is also conduct B2B2C as they sell their product to other business and the other business will sell this char kuey teow to the customer. For example, the stall 5am in the morning preparing more than 30 packets of char kuey teow and also an extra of fried mee to the other business and this business will sell the food to the customer around the new town.

B2C
As a usual way, food is always sells to customers as a main target. The stall everyday conducts their business to the customer from day to night.

This stall everyday buys the ingredient from the ice manufacturer which located near The Voice which is the ice, fruits from the market in the morning and the coffee powder from the retailer. When the stall received the ingredient such as ice, coffee powder and fruits, they took these ingredients to conduct business to create an ice blended to sell to the customers. 

B2C
They conduct the business by selling the ice blended to the customers.



C)    Business model

Both of these stalls conducting their business model using viral marketing. These stall promoting their product through social network such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and also Youtube. 
Besides that they also emailing their product to the reporter so that these reporters are likely to help these two stalls to promote their product to other countries or foreign.
Moreover they also email to certain advertising company so that particular reporter will also help the stalls to advertise their product by creating a banner or publishing in the traditional media such as television, radio, newspaper and magazine. 



D)    Basic approach used in marketing and advertising

Marketing
Since this stall has began for many years, their cooking style are remaining the same which means that they use a traditional style to cook the Char Kuey Teow. This stall does not use a gas but they are using the charcoal to cook the Char Kuey Teow as they said this is consider a healthy way for the customer eat their dishes. 
Besides that, this char kuey teow has remained their reputation from the beginning until now as they did not drop their image at all. This is one of the basic approach in marketing so that this will benefit their stall such as increase profit.

Advertising
This stall becoming famous until now and still advertise in the same way which they advertise their product through traditional media such as television and newspaper. Besides that they also advertise their stall through magazine as their food is one of the famous food in Perak.

Marketing
One of the basic approaches in marketing is the way they design the ice blended to make it attract more people. The ice blended white coffee the stall design is a very high in a cup and also affordable by purchasing it. 
Besides that, this ice blended is not only focus on one white coffee but they also design other kind of ice blended such as milo ice blended, fruit ice blended and also milk ice blended so that the customer have more selection. 
Moreover, this ice blended in a unique look comparing with other stall. This ice blended is also quite rare compared with other ice blended.

Advertising
Social media is one of the way that this stall advertising. They advertise their product through Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Besides that, the students also help the stalls to promote their ice blended as this is the way to attract more customers. 
Not only that, we can be an example to advertising their product as we made a blog as our assignment, we intend to share our blog to our friends or others as advertise their product to help out the stalls.



E)     Recommendation to improve businesses through e-commerce

Both of these food stall is in the same food court so in our opinion by improving these two businesses through e-commerce is that since there are many outstation UTAR students in Kampar, we should advertise these two businesses by post more or share more of their food and drinks of these two businesses in Facebook. We also can post these two businesses picture and promoting in the UTAR Facebook group such as UTAR Kampar group, UTAR Kampar We Share We Trade and many more. 
Besides that, we also intend to request the students to corporate with us by sharing these two businesses in their personal profile so that there will be more students will aware of it. Moreover, we improve these businesses through e-commerce by creating a banner or an advertisement to apply into social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. 
These two recommendations will not only aware by the students in Kampar or the locals but this will attract more customers from other cities such as Ipoh, Teluk Intan or Tapah. 
Last but not least, since both of these food stall are one of the famous food and drink, we should make the travellers aware that these two food stall that it is a must for the traveller to try these 2 food and drink by creating a blog about these two food stall so that when the travellers first step in Kampar, they will head to these food stall.
